High Flying Fun in Your Backyard

Summer Fun

The summer months are supposed to be a time to get outside and be adventurous, but sometimes life gets in the way. Between work, family, and finances, it can be hard to find the time and money to get away. Many adults today suffer from what Richard Louv has termed “Nature Deficit Disorder.”

Adult play can be an “important means of reducing stress and contributing to overall well-being.”

Jennifer Wallace, The Washington Post

Fortunately, there are several options for high-flying and affordable fun in Maryland to help you reconnect with nature – and Terrapin Adventures has you covered!

A Summer of Excitement is Closer than You Think!

Visit us at Terrapin Adventures to soar through the air, defy gravity, and enjoy our many Outdoor Adventures! All summer long — July 1 through September 3 — it’s buy three, get the fourth for FREE on our Adventure Packages.

We also offer several guided tours and outdoor activities, such as biking, caving, backpacking, geocaching, and kayaking, as well as one of the most exciting high ropes courses around!

“Nature is fuel for the soul, “ says Richard Ryan, researcher and professor of psychology at the University of Rochester. “Often when we feel depleted we reach for a cup of coffee, but research suggests a better way to get energized is to connect with nature.”

High Ropes Course

Conveniently located in Howard County, Maryland, between Baltimore and Washington DC, Terrapin Adventures boats the ultimate High Ropes Challenge Course; three levels, filled with 19 unique challenges taking you up to 40 ft. in the air! Each traverse is designed to entertain and challenge participants.

We also feature a 43 foot climbing tower with four sides, each taking two climbers at a time. Our routes up and down include some that are flat for beginners and an overhang route for more advanced climbers.

Kayaking

“Few exercises provide the entertainment range of kayaking,” says William McCoy, LIVESTRONG. “One minute, you’re gliding through the water as you admire the tranquility of your surroundings — the next minute, you’re zipping down a set of rapids.”

Here at Terrapin Adventures, our experienced and entertaining guides teach participants the basics of kayaking before setting out on a three-hour tour of the Patuxent River, one of the gentlest rivers in the Baltimore-Washington area.

  • We teach the basics of getting in and out of kayak
  • We go over basic paddling strokes
  • We point out the beautiful nature of a Chesapeake Bay estuary
  • We provide drink and snacks along with all gear

Choose from one of our many scheduled kayak outings, or design a private party with four or more participants!

Backpacking

“The nice thing about hiking is that it exists along an entire continuum, from a gentle walk on a flat wooded path to mountain climbing,” says Dr. Aaron L. Baggish, associate director of the Cardiovascular Performance Program at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital. Whether you are in peak physical condition or looking to get back in shape, hiking and backpacking offer a truly-customizable exercise experience.

“Nearly everyone, regardless of age or athletic ability, can find a hike that offers the right level of personal challenge,” says Julie Corliss, Harvard Heart Letter Executive Editor.

Terrapin Adventures not only features the ultimate challenge course with three levels taking you up to 40 ft. in the air, but we also offer several guided tours and outdoor activities, including backpacking.

Begin your journey on the East Coast’s signature hiking trail at historic Harpers Ferry. From there you will enjoy nature’s serenity while challenging yourself on this adventure laden two-day trek.
