Why Corporate Team Building is Not a DIY Activity

Corporate Team Building DIY

Our group facilitators and guides will lead your team through unique team building events that will help them think creatively and collaborate with one another.

In today’s do-it-yourself (DIY) world, more and more people are taking it upon themselves to perform activities and assume roles that they would have typically outsourced to a professional. And while this trend is growing increasingly popular amongst homeowners looking to save a few bucks on their next home improvement project, business owners have taken note as well. Unfortunately, not everything lends itself to this DIY approach. After all, there is a reason many of these professionals exist. They have the knowledge, experience, and resources to properly perform certain tasks, like Corporate Team Building.

Corporate Team Building is NOT a DIY Activity

While the concept may seem simple enough, team building is an incredibly complex experience that requires an experienced facilitator to not only lead your group through each event, but also through debriefing sessions after each event. These debriefing sessions are critical. They are designed to reinforce the lessons behind each team building activity and help apply these lessons to the daily challenges your group experiences in the office. Without such debriefings, team building activities are little more than morale boosters, which may help boost productivity for a time, but will not help correct the issues plaguing your office. In order for morale and productivity to remain at a high level, fundamental changes must be made within an organization. This is where PROFESSIONAL corporate team buildingcomes into play.

The Web: A Classic Team Building Exercise

The web is a classic team building challenge that requires your team to work together to solve a problem. This exercise can be done in one of two ways, depending on your group’s desired level of physical activity.

Physical Activity: Easy to Hard, depending on your group’s desired level of physical activity.

Equipment: The Web

Lessons Learned: The web is a classic team building challenge that requires your team to work together to solve a problem. The goal is simple enough. Pass each member of your group through the spider web without touching any of the strings. For those groups who want a less physically demanding challenge, your team may be asked to weave a rope the spider web in a predetermined pattern.

Either way, The Web is a great team building activity designed to test your group’s problem solving capabilities while also fostering better communication, trust, and, of course, team work. How will your team handle this challenge? Will they work together or will they struggle to cooperate? Who will take on leadership roles?

The Web is just one example of the many different team building exercises that Terrapin Adventures uses to help your team reach their full potential.
