Investing in Each Other for Staff Team Building
Are you invested in them? Are they invested in you? In the world of team building we seek to make the most meaningful impact we can with the limited time that we have with a group. Much like companies the only way this can work is if both the group and the guide seek to help each other in the process. Many companies spend years attempting to achieve a corporate culture that gets employees invested in a company’s goals. Team building guides need to achieve the same “buy in” but in no time at all. So how is this done?
Three big policies help people move toward an invested state. First, invest in them. Cliche as it may be, trust is a two way street. If you want others to trust a process, they must first trust the person running the process. The fastest way for others to trust in you is for you to first place your trust in them. Second, align your goals. This can be far easier in a team building world than in a work world. The goals of team building are usually set by the group, because of this the guide is there merely to help the group achieve their own goals, thus the common term “facilitator.” Finally, be vigilant in working toward the group goals. It is not enough to merely have parallel goals, a group must see you actively pursuing their goals, for them to actively engage themselves. As with any group, an invested team building group can engage more, achieve more, and derive greater satisfaction from the experience.
