River Tubing

Cool off in nature this summer with our River Tube Rentals! The great outdoors doesn’t always mean you have to work up a sweat! Sit back, relax, and let the water take you on an easy adventure!

Rental Cost: $25/tube
Security Deposit: $35/tube

• You’ll rent and pick up your tubes from us at our office in Savage Mill, and then can take your tubes wherever you want! Pick-Up is between 9:30 – 10:00 AM. (We cannot accommodate any pick-ups later than 10:30 AM)
• Our office requires credit card information to save for your deposit — we will collect this when you arrive for Pick-Up. If you return a tube after the Drop-Off Time (5:30 PM Eastern), you will be charged $35/tube. (Please call the office at 301-725-1313 if you will be late)
• Terrapin Adventures will provide Personal Floatation Devices for all guests, PFD’s are required at Patapsco Valley State Park

Please deflate the tubes before your trip back to our office! This will make transporting the tubes much easier! (Be sure to hang on to the Boston valves!)

The closest tubing site we recommend is the at Patapsco Valley State Park. Prepare for a $3/fee per car to enter the park.

PLEASE NOTE: Patapsco Valley Park may turn you away once the park fills up, so pick up your tubes early.  You will not be offered a refund because you were not able to get into Patapsco Valley State Park.

Alternative Tubing Sites — another popular location is in Monkton.

Time: 1.5 – 4 Hours | Depends on the flow of the river. We do not control the weather!

Number of Participants: Up to 10 Tube Rentals per day

Minimum Age Required: 8 years old and must be able to swim!
**Minors (those under 18 years of age) must be accompanied by one adult on the trip.**

Terrapin Adventures Provides:

• Tube (don’t forget to keep an eye on the valve)
• Life Vest — must be worn throughout your entire time on the water
• One cargo strap per tube rental

Key Information

Reserve Your Spot: We highly recommend booking online as we can’t guarantee walk-ins.

Tubing Rental Pick-Up: Pick-Up is between 9:30 – 10:00 AM. (We cannot accommodate any pickups later than 10:30 AM.)

Tubing Rental Drop-Off: You must drop off all the equipment (including the tubes) back to Terrapin Adventures by 5:00 PM Eastern or you’ll be charged the $35 deposit, per tube. (Please call the office at 301-725-1313 if you will be late, but you may still be charged the deposit)

Transportation & Park Fees: We recommend that you park in the Avalon Area and then walk 1.8 miles to the put-in area at or above the Swinging Bridge, in the Orange Grove Section of the park. If you want a longer trip, you can continue walking for another half-a-mile (~2.3 miles in total).

The park often closes the River Road, which runs parallel to the river, to car traffic for safety. Patapsco Valley State Park will also charge you a nominal entrance fee per person (approximately $3).

Waivers: Everyone must complete a Standard Waiver 

What to Wear/Bring

For the Water:

• Sunblock, a hat, sunglasses, and a bottle of water
• Shoes/Sandals that can get wet to protect your feet.
• Secure and dry storage for your valuables (like car keys).

For Your Trip Home (kept in your car):

• Beach/Bath Towel
• Change of clothes
• Dry shoes (socks optional)

Inclement Weather Policy

We will do not recommend tubing if there is a high chance of thunderstorms where you are planning river tubing. Unsure? Give us a call at 301-725-1313!

Cancellation Policy

More than 2 days before your event = no cost

2 days or less from your event = we will provide a Rain Check — good for 6 months from the originally scheduled date.

We recommend that you type “Terrapin Adventures” into Waze or Google Maps, to get to the correct parking lot.
