Kayak Nature Tour

Nature Kayak Tour

2024 tours: 6/16, 7/20, 8/18, 9/14

Paddle your way along Scott’s Cove — the rocky gorge reservoir section of the Patuxent River — with our experienced and entertaining guides!

We’ll teach you the basics of kayaking from paddling to steering and how to safely enter/exit your kayak.

Our sit-in recreational-style kayaks are safe and stable. They track well and are responsive to your paddling efforts.

We often see many different kinds of wildlife like birds, fish, and turtles as we meander quietly on the many coves and inlets. About halfway through we will stop to enjoy a snack we provide before heading back.

Before Your Tour

Key Information

Reserve Your Spot: We highly recommend booking online as we can’t guarantee walk-ins.

Check-In: You must meet at Scott’s Cove 30 minutes before your kayak tour to Check-In.

That means 8:30 AM check-in for the 9:00 AM tour or 12:30 PM check-in for the 1:00 PM Tour.

Waivers: Everyone must complete a Waiver.

What to Wear/Bring

For the Water: We recommend that guests bring: sunblock, a hat, sunglasses, a bottle of water, and shoes that can get wet (they will be walking in the water to enter their kayaks).

For Your Trip Home: Additional items (that can be kept in their cars), that might be useful when they get back on land would be: a towel, a change of clothes, dry shoes, and a lunch if you are planning to stay after the trip ends.

Tip Your Guides: Finally…cash! Your guides work very hard to ensure your enjoyment and safety while on the water. A 10-20% tip is quite standard in the recreation industry.
