How much does a team building program cost?

The cost of your program will depend on your group size, what you are trying to accomplish, the length of your program and what options you choose? Rather than trying to do one size fits all, we tailor the program to your needs. You can start by completing an inquiry form (link) or call our office at 301-725-1313 for a free consultation. We have programs for all kinds of budget and have half day, full day and multi-day programs available.

What are requirements for youth/school group?

Participants must be at least 8 years old, 48 inches tall, and some of our elements have a minimum weight requirement. We have designed school group packages that are age appropriate.

While at Terrapin Adventures you agree to abide by the following rules:

  • Chaperones will be asked to help with their groups by maintaining order, clipping in participants, and, if necessary and after instruction by TA staff, belaying climbers.
  • Youths must be escorted with guides or chaperones at all times – including lunch and bathroom breaks.
  • Guests will use quiet voices when inside Savage Mill to show respect to the other stores.
  • Guests will clean up after themselves and treat equipment lent them with respect.
  • Please do not run, chew gum, smoke, or use profanity while on our course.
  • Buses must be parked on the upper levels of the parking lot after dropping off passengers.

How far in advance should I consider booking?

We recommend that you plan your team building event months in advance to get your preferred date. Many groups come back every year so plan ahead. To reserve a date, we ask that you sign a contract and put down a deposit (see cancellation section).

What kind of physical shape do my group participants have to be in?

We design our team building programs to be inclusive. After having a consultation with you, we will design a program that fits your group’s abilities. Most programs require participants to be to handle light exertion, be able to walk in the woods, climb stairs unassisted and weigh between 70 and 275 pounds. Pregnant women, people with heart, leg or spine problems or other serious illnesses are discouraged from participating on all adventures and tours. Persons unsure of their physical ability should consult their personal physician first. No smoking, chewing gum, profanity, drugs or alcohol are permitted on the tour at any time.

Guests must be able to move independently as they moderately exert themselves over the physically challenging course. TA reserves the right to restrict access or deny admission if it feels the element is not appropriate for the individual.

What should I wear?

Dress appropriately for the weather in comfortable clothing that won’t prohibit any athletic activity and could potentially get dirty. Layers are recommended during the cool weather months. Participants must have sturdy, closed toed shoes. No sandals, slippers, or high-heeled shoes. Participants with long hair are recommended to secure it as to not conflict with the safety systems and equipment. Do not bring any jewelry or valuables on the course, as we will not be responsible if they are lost. Guests are recommended to bring water bottles to stay hydrated on warm days.

What are your bad weather, rescheduling, and cancellation policy?

If your group cancels more than 30 days prior to your originally scheduled program date, there is no charge for cancelling. If you cancel less than 30 days before the original date, your group will owe 50% of the minimum program cost by the original program date. This balance will be available as a credit for an event within the next 6 months.

Our preference is to reschedule your group for an alternative date and time. If you decide to reschedule within 180 days of your originally scheduled date, you will be subject to a $50 rescheduling fee. When you reschedule, you agree to have at least 50% of the minimum program cost made available to us by the original date. This balance will be available as a credit for an event within the next 6 months.

When should we arrive for our team building program?

Please plan on arriving 30 minutes prior to your schedule start time. This will give you enough time to check-in and prepare for your event. We strongly suggest you complete the consent and waiver form in advance to save time at check-in.

What if I am afraid of heights?

Most of our team building programs have a portion of the day doing exercises and games
on the ground or close to it. TA guides have been specially trained to help you overcome
any fears and we do offer other types of team building programs that do not require
climbing.

We operate on a challenge by choice premise so if a participant is uncomfortable with an
activity, they can opt out. Our challenge course area is a non-smoking environment.

How safe are the courses?

Your safety is our highest priority. The courses are designed by Inner Quest, an experienced adventure course builder and one of the founders of the Association of Challenge Course Technology and signed off by a licensed Maryland engineer and designed to exceed any expected stresses. The course has also been inspected by the state of Maryland. Guests are always secured by a safety line and the courses have built-in redundancy. Guides have been specially trained in the use of the equipment, first-aid and rescue techniques. Each day the courses and equipment are inspected for wear and proper functioning.

Can I take my camera/cell phone out on the course?

Yes but you do so at your own risk. Our guides may ask you to put away your camera when you are in on a section of the course that needs your full attention. Periodically, we will have roving photographers taking action and group shots which you can find on our Facebook page or you can arrange to purchase and have the jpeg files sent to your email address.

Why do I need to sign a waiver?

Although safety is our primary concern, this is still an adventure center with inherent levels of risk. We want to make sure that you understand what the team building program entails and that you agree to participate. Click here to download the Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risk Agreement that you will be signing before we can let you on the course. Even observers and chaperones will need to complete a consent/waiver form. Please remember to print it out and bring it in signed to speed your check-in.
