Getting to Know Steve Carne: General Manager & Team Building Facilitator

Whether he’s running a team building event, leading an outdoor adventure, or helping guests on the challenge course, you will never need to ask where Steve is. His booming voice and enthusiasm makes him easy to find.

Steven is a recent Maryland transplant who originally hails from the west coast. He is a National Outdoor Leadership School graduate and received training also at UCLA and Mountain Meadow Ranch in Northern California. Steve has more than 10-years experience running teambuilding programs at camps, college campuses, and, of course, Terrapin Adventures, and enjoys exploring interpersonal communications within groups.

“Steve, Thank you so much for your facilitation and participation in our Leadership U program. As you are aware, team building is a critical aspect of working with any group and you really helped show our students how to put it to use.”

Steve also works as one of our adventure guides, allowing him to share his passion for nature with others. And, late last year, Steve was named Terrapin Adventure’s new general manager. In this role, he has helped strengthen the organization’s core values with his hands-on managerial approach and policy of open, honest communication.

“I see the relationship building with employees, effective sharing of vision and motivation as the crux of driving company value,” says Steve. “Through constantly engaging employees, I can connect with them, understand their concerns, sell them on our shared goals, and form an environment more akin to family than a dour place of work.”

Steve was also recently recognized as one of Baltimore’s top 40 leaders as part of SmartCEO’s 2016 Executive Management Awards (EMA) program.

EMA winners are Chosen by an independent committee of local business leaders, the EMA program recognizes the leadership and accomplishments of the region’s management all-stars, executives who uphold the highest ethics, lead collaboratively and creatively, and enhance and support the organization’s mission.

“The 2016 Executive Management Award winners are not only leading their companies and co-workers to achieve great things, they are also making huge contributions to their communities,” says Jaime Nespor-Zawmon, President of SmartCEO Events.
